The $400 million jackpot for Mega Millions
The first week of the scary month of October comes to a close with a sizable Mega Millions® jackpot; on Friday, October 7, an estimated $410 million ($213.8 million in cash) is up for grabs. The jackpot has already reached $400 million three times this year! The white balls 15, 18, 25, 33, and 38, together with the gold Mega Ball 25, were drawn on Tuesday night. As the jackpot increases, Tuesday’s drawing resulted in a large number of additional winners; for the drawing on October 4, a total of 720,159 winning tickets at all reward levels were sold. Two tickets, bought in Louisiana and New Jersey, matched all five white balls to take home the $1 million second-tier prize. In order to win the third prize in the game, 18 tickets had to match four white balls as well as the Mega Ball. Due to the optional Megaplier (a $1 additional purchase available in most states), which was 2X Tuesday night, four of them are each worth $20,000 in value. The other 14 third-place tickets each get $10,000.
There have been more than 11 million winning tickets at all reward levels since the jackpot was last claimed on July 29. Twenty of these winning tickets have a value of $1 million or more. These significant awards have been received from 14 different states around the nation: Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
$400 million jackpot for Mega Millions
The five Mega Millions jackpots that have been won so far this year illustrate that anybody may win the game. The second-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever was won on July 29 in Illinois for a staggering $1.337 billion. That happened long after a $20 million victory on April 15 in Tennessee. Prior to this one, three additional jackpots were won for sums totaling $426 million on January 28 in California, $128 million on March 8 in New York, and $110 million on April 12 in Minnesota. That person won the first Mega Millions jackpot in Minnesota.
